A Thought

Passion: the motivation and drive it takes for one to live in excellence. When we are passionate about something, we are able to perform to our fullest potential.

Although some would agree that life is black and white, that there is no grey area, I beg to differ. It is in the realm of open-mindedness that genius is birthed. Take for example James Watson: he discovered the structure of DNA. And he credited his breakthrough to the notion that “There is more than one way of doing good science.” He was open-minded.

Now, consider this: can one be passionate about something if their creativity is stifled by others black and white views, by others lack of ingenuity? I think not. It seems people accomplish more when they are allowed to do things their own way.

Growing up, my teachers told me I couldn’t draw with pencils, I had to use colors. They told me my writing had to follow certain guidelines, “No, Jake, you cannot start your essay with a quote.” Truth is, they were wrong. I can draw how I want. I can write how I want. And excellence shall come by way of passion formed from freedom.

It’s not as much how we do things that matters as it is enjoying the way we do things. When given the opportunity to perform in the way we wish to do so, we allow for a greater margin of success. Form the conception and the rest will follow.

I shall leave you with Maxwell Maltz’s famous words: “Human beings always act and perform in accordance with what they imagine to be true about themselves and their environment.” Imagine success. Imagine ingenuity. Imagine freedom. Imagine a world apart from the small box others choose to place you in. And surely excellence will follow.
