Past to Present

Bursts of sensory details

explode in my mind:

memories that bring

Joy and hope.

I can see them;

I can feel them;

I can hear them.

Yet

they’re still just of the past.

All I have are the moments of today

that will soon become

scenes in history.

Of the past they are:

bursts of sensory details,

but they pull me through

the darkness

and into the light

of today.

They are

etched upon my heart

so that I can see

and feel

and breath:

I am alive
